Kidnapping Victim Amanda Berry Makes First Public Appearance With Rapper Nelly

Kidnapping victim Amanda Berry made her first public appearance since being freed from a Cleveland home, where she was held captive for ten years. Berry popped up on the stage at The Roverfest in Cleveland on Saturday (July 27) to a cheering crowd. After rapper Nelly performed, he called Berry, 27, back to the stage, who received another round of applause. “I wanna make sure we get a chance to thank you cause I know it’s a long time,” Nelly told Amanda Berry. “I can’t even imagine the type of courage and strength it took to keep it going so, I commend you and thank you.” Just a day earlier, Amanda Berry’s kidnapper Ariel Castro pleaded guilty to 937 criminal charges, for his role in holding Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight captive for a decade. During their captivity, Ariel Castro fathered a 6-year-old with Amanda Berry as well. Ariel Castro pleaded guilty to the charges and will be sentenced to life in prison plus 1,000 years. He alleges that he was subjected to threats via text message, and that Dre used "homophobic rhetoric" against him. Due to these claims, Dr. Sophy filed a restraining order against him.
